Welder labour hire in Sydney

Coded welders who have run a bead in front of our tradespeople before they run one on your job. MIG, TIG, stick and flux-core. Structural, plate, pipe and stainless.

The trade

What our welders do on Sydney sites

Welding in Sydney industry is rarely a clean bench job. It is a chute liner inside a hopper at a recycling plant in Western Sydney at two in the morning. It is tying in a stainless line on a bottling hall floor between production runs. It is running structural fillets on a steel package in a Smithfield fabrication shop with the delivery truck already booked. Our welders have done that work, and they arrive knowing what the day will look like.

We supply welders to fabrication shops, maintenance crews and construction projects across Sydney, from the Wetherill Park and Ingleburn industrial belts to Port Botany, Kurnell and the Hunter. Most hold a fabrication trade and fit their own work; the rest are production welders who are fast and consistent alongside a boilermaker or pipe fitter.

  • Structural welders for beams, platforms, handrails, stairs, chutes and hoppers, shop or site.
  • Pipe welders running a TIG root with stick or flux-core fill on carbon and stainless pipe.
  • Maintenance welders for wear plate, hardfacing, conveyor structure and plant repairs.
  • Stainless and sanitary welders for food, beverage and pharma: purged TIG, crevice-free, polished.

The Smart Standard

How we trade-test welders

Every welder we send out has welded in front of one of our tradespeople first. The test is set to the work: a 3G or 4G plate fillet and butt for structural roles, a 6G pipe coupon for pipe roles, purged stainless TIG for hygienic work. We watch fit-up, tacking, travel speed and clean-up, then visually inspect to the relevant acceptance level and section or bend the coupon when the role is coded.

Then we sit down with them: weld symbols off a real drawing, consumable storage, preheat and interpass basics, and what they do when a weld fails inspection. A welder who talks straight about a bad coupon is worth more to you than one who hides it.

Engagements

How Sydney sites use our welders

01

Shutdowns

Planned windows at plants, mills and recycling facilities. Welders arrive inducted and verified, ready for the permit board.

02

Breakdowns & repairs

Cracked chute, failed stringer, split tank. We find a welder who has fixed that exact thing.

03

Projects & fab packages

Structural steel, platforms, spools and tanks for shops under delivery pressure.

04

Shift cover

Night, weekend or leave cover so production welding does not fall behind.

05

Long-term placements

A welder embedded in your crew for months, on our payroll, under your supervision.

06

Temp-to-perm

Trial a welder on site before you offer a permanent role. No surprises either side.

Questions

Welder hire FAQs

Are your welders coded?

Where the job requires it, yes. We hold welders with current AS/NZS 1554.1 structural qualifications, AS/NZS ISO 9606-1 and AS 1796 certificates. If your scope needs a specific procedure, send us the WPS and we will test the welder to it before they start.

How quickly can you supply welders for a shutdown or breakdown?

Tell us the window and we will tell you honestly what we can fill. For Sydney metro sites we can usually mobilise welders within a day or two; shutdown crews and regional NSW work benefit from more notice so we can line up inductions and travel.

Do your welders bring their own equipment?

Hand tools, grinders and PPE, yes. Welding plant, consumables and gas are normally supplied by the site or workshop because they need to match your procedures. If you need a welder with their own machine, tell us and we will source accordingly.

Will they weld to my WPS and sign weld maps?

Yes. Our welders are used to working to a written procedure, recording their welds on a weld map and presenting work for hold points under an ITP. We brief them on your QA expectations before day one.

Can you supply stainless or food-grade welders?

Yes. For food, beverage and pharmaceutical plants we supply TIG welders experienced in purged stainless work, hygienic joint design and the housekeeping those sites demand. See our food & beverage page for the compliance side.

Who employs the welder, and who is responsible for pay and insurance?

Smart Industrial does. We employ the welder, pay wages, superannuation and entitlements correctly, and carry workers compensation and public liability. You direct the work on site, approve timesheets and receive a weekly invoice. Details are on our labour hire page.
