Industrial trade jobs in Sydney

Paid well above award, consistent hours and a team that has your back. Built by tradies, for tradies.

Why Smart Industrial

Work with people who know your trade

01

Paid well above award

Above-award rates with penalties, allowances and super, paid correctly every week. Hard work deserves proper reward.

02

Consistent hours, real overtime

Shutdowns, plants, mines and major builds across Sydney and NSW, with regular overtime when the program calls for it. Work that uses your trade, not work that wastes it.

03

Safety taken seriously

Inducted by us before you start, briefed before every site, and backed by us to stop a job that is not safe.

04

A team that has your back

You are a tradesperson to us, not a number. Our managers have done the job, so when you call about a problem on site they know what you mean and they sort it.

Management, engineering and professional roles

We recruit permanent staff for every role in an industrial business, not just the trades. If you are a maintenance manager, planner, reliability or project engineer, HSEQ lead, estimator, operations or plant manager, we run retained, exclusive and contingent searches for those roles across Sydney and NSW, and many of them are never advertised.

Register once and a consultant who understands the work calls you before anything else happens. Confidential searches stay confidential: nothing about you goes to an employer until you have agreed to be put forward.

What you can expect

  • A conversation about what you want next, not a form that disappears.
  • Roles matched to your site experience, tickets and the way you work, not keyword matches.
  • Straight feedback after every interview we arrange.
  • Help shaping the offer and a check-in after you start.
  • Retained and exclusive searches for senior roles, run with discretion.

Is this you?

What we look for

  • Current trade qualifications and the licences your trade requires.
  • Reliability. You turn up on time, every shift, and say so early if you cannot.
  • Commercial or industrial site experience: permits, isolations and SWMS.
  • You want your skills used, not parked.
  • You work well alone or in a crew, and you are straight with both.
  • Your own tools, transport and the know-how to do the job properly.

Roles we fill

Trades we place

Industrial and commercial electricians, mechanical fitters, boilermakers, welders, pipe fitters, crane operators, riggers and dogmen, trade assistants, supervisors and project managers. Apply even if there is no advertised role today: shutdowns and shift cover often come up at short notice.

How we hire

More checks than most. That is the point.

Clients trust Smart Industrial people because the checking is already done. Getting through our process is a badge of quality: it tells every supervisor you work for that you have passed the same bar as the crew around you.

  1. 01

    Visa and work rights (VEVO)

Right to work verified through VEVO, with identity, licences and tickets checked at the source.

  2. 02

    National Police Check

Completed in-house before you are put forward, because many of the sites we supply require it.

  3. 03

    Pre-employment medical

Confirms you are fit for the work, with drug and alcohol screening where sites require it.

  4. 04

    Psychometric and personality profile

Not pass or fail. It helps us put you on crews and sites where you will do your best work.

  5. 05

    Trade test

Set and marked by someone from your trade. Welders weld, electricians fault-find, riggers do the maths.

  6. 06

    Smart Industrial safety induction

Ours comes before any site induction, so you start day one knowing how we work and how we back you.

Checked once. Trusted on site.

Having worked with Tyler at Smart Industrial the past couple of months I have nothing but good things to say, he has gone above and beyond to ensure top service and the quality of contractors provided has been spot on. Highly recommend.

Questions

Working with us: FAQs

Do I need my own tools and transport?

Hand tools and PPE for your trade, and reliable transport to sites across Sydney. Welding plant, test gear and specialised equipment are normally supplied by the site. We tell you exactly what to bring before each placement.

Is the work casual or permanent?

Most placements are casual labour hire: shift cover, shutdowns and long-term assignments. Clients who like your work can offer you a permanent role, and we are glad when they do.

How is my pay worked out?

Under the award or agreement that applies to your work, including penalties, allowances and superannuation. You receive the Fair Work Information Statement when you start, and you can read it on our website any time.

Where is the work?

Mostly Sydney: Western Sydney, the Bankstown and Padstow area, Parramatta, Port Botany and Kurnell. Also regional shutdowns at sites such as Cadia, with travel and accommodation agreed before you go.

Can I apply if I am new to Australia or from interstate?

Yes, if you have the right to work in Australia, which we verify through VEVO. Interstate licences can be recognised in NSW under mutual recognition, and we can point you to trade recognition if your qualification is from overseas.

How long does the process take?

It depends on how quickly checks come back and when we can book your trade test and induction. Have your licences, tickets and ID ready and it moves faster. We keep you posted at every step.
