Boilermaker labour hire in Sydney

Boilermakers who read the drawing, mark it out, cut it, fit it and weld it. Shop or site. Structural or plate. A one-off repair or a full fabrication package.

The trade

What our boilermakers do on Sydney sites

A boilermaker is the trade that turns a drawing into steel. On Sydney sites that means fabricating and installing platforms, stairs and handrails; building chutes, hoppers, bins and ductwork; fitting wear plate and liners in recycling and quarry plant; repairing tanks, screens and conveyor structure during shutdowns; and knocking out the brackets and modifications every maintenance crew needed yesterday.

We supply boilermakers to fabrication shops in Smithfield, Wetherill Park, Padstow and Ingleburn, to maintenance crews in plants across Western Sydney, to construction projects around Parramatta and the airport precinct, and to heavy industry in Newcastle, the Hunter and Port Kembla. Most of ours came up through the shop floor and weld to a coded standard. All of them can hold a tape, a square and a grinder and use them properly.

  • Shop fabrication: marking out, cutting, fit-up, tacking, welding out, finishing.
  • Site installation: platforms, stairs, handrails, conveyors, structural modifications.
  • Plate and wear work: liners, hardfacing, chutes, hoppers and bins.
  • Shutdown repairs: tanks, screens, ductwork and the structure nobody else can reach.

The Smart Standard

How we trade-test boilermakers

Our boilermaker test is a small fabrication job, not a quiz. We hand over a detail drawing with weld symbols, tolerances and a cut list, and ask them to mark out, cut, fit up and tack the assembly, then weld it out in position. We measure the result: dimensions against tolerance, squareness, weld size and profile, distortion.

Then we talk. Material identification, from mild steel and stainless to abrasion-resistant plate. Preheat. How they would sequence welds on a long run to control pull. What they do when the drawing and the steel disagree. A boilermaker who asks the right question before cutting saves you a week.

Questions

Boilermaker hire FAQs

What is the difference between a boilermaker and a welder?

A boilermaker holds a fabrication trade: they read drawings, mark out, cut, fit and weld. A welder joins metal. If your brief is "build this" or "modify that", you want a boilermaker. If it is "weld these joints", a welder may be the better fit. We will tell you which.

Can your boilermakers weld to code?

Most hold current AS/NZS 1554 structural qualifications, and we have AS 1796 certificate holders for pressure and inspected work. Send us your WPS and we will test the boilermaker to it before they start.

Do you supply for workshop or site work?

Both. Shop fabricators for steel packages under delivery pressure, and site boilermakers for installs, shutdowns and repairs. Tell us which, because the best shop hand and the best site hand are not always the same person.

Can they sling and move their own steel?

Many of our boilermakers hold dogging (DG), forklift (LF) and bridge and gantry crane (CB) tickets, so they can work with your crane crew or move their own work in the shop. We verify every ticket before they start.

Are they inducted for my site?

Every boilermaker completes the Smart Industrial safety induction before they step on your site, with tickets, licences, VEVO and police check already verified. Your site-specific induction then sits on top, and we make sure they arrive with the paperwork your gatehouse asks for.

How are rates and minimum engagements set?

We quote on the brief: trade level, tickets, shift pattern, location and duration. Rates are built on the applicable award, so you know the worker is paid correctly. There is no minimum volume commitment to work with us.
