Shutdown supervision
A supervisor who runs the permit board, the crews and the daily plan for the length of the outage.
Leadership labour hire · Sydney & NSW
Leaders who came up through the trade. Supervisors who can run a permit board, a crew and a program at the same time, and project managers who have delivered in plant, not just on a spreadsheet.
The roles
A good supervisor is the difference between a shutdown that finishes on time and one that finishes on the news. On Sydney sites we supply leading hands who run a small crew and keep working alongside them; supervisors who own the permit-to-work board, the toolbox talks, the isolations and the daily plan; superintendents and project managers who hold the program, the budget, the contractors and the client; and construction estimators who price the work accurately before any of it starts.
Every one of them has a trade or engineering background and recent site time. We supply them to manufacturers, mechanical and electrical contractors, builders and asset owners across Sydney and NSW: shutdowns at plants in Western Sydney, construction projects around Parramatta and the airport precinct, maintenance operations in the Hunter and the Illawarra.
Qualifications
A trade behind them, a safety qualification beside them, and the systems knowledge your site runs on.
The Smart Standard
You cannot bench-test leadership, so we interview for it, with one of our senior tradespeople across the table and real scenarios on it. Two crews want the same isolation at the same time. An electrician wants to skip test-for-dead because the board was dead an hour ago. The shutdown is eight hours behind at the halfway mark. There is an incident at two o'clock on a Friday. We listen for what they do first, who they call, and what they refuse to do.
Then we verify trade and safety qualifications and speak to people from their last two sites: the ones they reported to and the ones they supervised. The psychometric and personality profile carries more weight here than for any other role. Then the rest of The Smart Standard.
Permit conflicts, shortcuts, schedule pressure and incident response, with a tradesperson asking.
Trade, WHS, project management and estimating qualifications checked at source.
The people they reported to and the people they supervised on the last two sites.
VEVO, National Police Check, medical, psychometric and personality profile, and our safety induction.

Questions
Yes, every one of them, or an engineering qualification with hands-on site time. We do not supply supervisors who have never done the work they are supervising, because crews can tell within an hour.
Our supervisors have experience in those roles under formal permit-to-work systems. Authorisation is always granted under your site's procedures and training; we make sure the background and paperwork are in place so that happens quickly.
Some do; others came up through a trade and hold a Diploma of Project Management or equivalent. Tell us whether your project needs an engineer, a trade-up PM or a superintendent, and we will match accordingly.
Yes. Estimators for tender periods, bid pushes and variation pricing, with quantity take-off and estimating software experience. They are often engaged for defined periods so you are not carrying the overhead year-round.
A scenario interview with one of our senior tradespeople, references from the people they reported to and the people they supervised, and a psychometric and personality profile. Qualifications are verified at source, but judgement is what we are hiring for.
Yes. A supervisor plus our fitters, boilermakers, electricians and trade assistants, inducted together, is a common way to staff a shutdown or a project package.
