Mechanical fitter labour hire in Sydney

Fitters who can strip a pump, align a drive and read a GA drawing without a second look. Maintenance, shutdowns and projects across Sydney and NSW.

The trade

What our fitters do on Sydney sites

A mechanical fitter keeps the rotating equipment turning. On Sydney sites that means pulling and rebuilding pumps and gearboxes at a Wetherill Park plant, changing idlers, pulleys and scrapers on a conveyor at a recycling facility, setting bearings and laser-aligning a drive on a packaging line in Ingleburn, fitting and commissioning new equipment on a project, and working the mechanical side of a shutdown at a mill, a mine or a glass plant.

We supply mechanical fitters to maintenance crews, OEM service teams, mechanical contractors and plants across Sydney and NSW: Western Sydney's manufacturing belt, Port Botany and Kurnell, the Illawarra and Port Kembla, Newcastle and the Hunter, and shutdown work at Cadia and other regional operations.

  • Rotating equipment: pumps, gearboxes, compressors, fans and blowers, stripped, rebuilt and set.
  • Conveyors and materials handling: idlers, pulleys, drives, scrapers, take-ups and structure.
  • Precision work: laser and dial alignment, bearing fits, shafts, couplings and seals.
  • Hydraulics and installation: cylinders, valves and power packs; new plant fitted and commissioned.

The Smart Standard

How we trade-test fitters

The fitter test is on the bench and on paper. They read a GA drawing and a parts list and give us the assembly sequence. They measure: a shaft with a micrometer, a bore with a vernier or bore gauge, runout with a dial indicator, and they read the results correctly. They walk us through a laser alignment from soft foot to final tolerances, explain how they fit a bearing (heat or press, never a hammer on the race), set a coupling gap and diagnose a pump that is cavitating.

Then isolation: lock-out and tag-out, stored energy in hydraulics, springs and suspended loads, and how a permit system works. A fitter who cannot explain stored energy does not get a Smart Industrial shirt.

Engagements

How Sydney sites use our fitters

01

Shutdowns

Gearbox and pump changeouts, conveyor overhauls and alignment inside a fixed window, at plants, mills and mines.

02

Breakdowns

A failed drive on the line and your crew already stretched. A fitter who has done it before, moving now.

03

Projects & commissioning

New equipment installs, line relocations and commissioning with your contractor or OEM.

04

Shift cover

Night shift, weekend and leave cover on your maintenance roster.

05

Long-term placements

A fitter embedded in your crew for months, on our payroll, under your supervision.

06

Temp-to-perm

Trial on site first, then hire permanently when it works for both sides.

Questions

Mechanical fitter hire FAQs

What is the difference between a maintenance fitter and a fitter-machinist?

A maintenance fitter works on plant: pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, alignment and installation. A fitter-machinist can also make parts on a lathe or mill. We supply both; tell us whether the work is on the plant floor, in the workshop, or both, and we will match accordingly.

Are your fitters experienced with laser alignment?

Yes. Alignment is part of our trade test, from soft foot and pre-alignment checks through to final tolerances and reporting. Laser kits are normally site-supplied so the fitter works with the system your plant already uses.

Can they work on conveyors?

Idlers, pulleys, drives, scrapers, take-ups and structure, yes. Belt splicing is a specialist skill; tell us if your job needs it and we will source accordingly rather than guess.

Can you build a full shutdown crew?

Yes. Fitters with boilermakers, riggers, electricians, trade assistants and a supervisor if you need one, all inducted by us before the shutdown starts.

Do they understand isolation and permit systems?

They have to. Lock-out and tag-out, stored energy and permit-to-work are part of the trade test, not an afterthought. Your site-specific isolation procedure is then briefed before day one.

Do you supply fitters for regional and mine-site work?

Yes. We supply fitters for shutdowns and maintenance in the Hunter, the Illawarra and at regional operations such as Cadia. Travel, accommodation and site induction requirements are agreed with you up front so there are no surprises on mobilisation day.
